Kaeleigh Damico is a PhD student in Philosophy at the University of Tennessee. She earned a BS in Philosophy and Mathematics from Emory & Henry University in 2017, followed by a Master’s of Public Health from the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill in 2019. She returned to academia to study Philosophy in 2022. Her current research focuses on moral harm and moral injury, developing a unified account of moral harm, understood as damage to an agent’s capacity for practical reason across the course of moral development. She argues that, in addition to moral injuries, other phenomena from minor “moral papercuts” to large-scale moral malaises share this structure. Following this, she is outlining a virtue-theoretic approach to moral resilience and moral rehabilitation that is especially relevant to our treatment of moral injury. When she isn’t overthinking questions about life, the universe, and everything, she likes to hike and canoe with her partner and their dog, Dolittle.
