UT Philosophy Department Annual Newsletter
The UT Department of Philosophy is a flourishing community of scholars consisting of more than 80 undergraduate majors, nearly 30 graduate students, roughly a dozen full-time faculty lecturers, nearly another dozen tenured or tenure track faculty, two outstanding administrative staff persons, and an always helpful work-study student. Fulfilling the Department’s teaching, research, and service missions and administering its academic programs would not be possible without the contributions of each and all!

Academic Year 2013-14 was a busy but terrific year for UT Department of Philosophy faculty and students.
In the Spring of 2014, the Philosophy Department continued its tradition of garnering numerous Chancellor’s Awards.
The UT Department of Philosophy continued to organize and host the Tennessee Regional High School Ethics Bowl, an outreach event launched five years ago.
The department is building bridges to China: three current Ph.D. students -- Jiajun (Albert) Hu, Xinghua Wang, and Qianlu (Lily) Ying -- hail from that country, and a fourth (Yuanyuan Liu) is set to arrive this fall.
The UT Philosophy Graduate Program remains strong and vibrant, thanks to the efforts of current Director Jon Garthoff.
The UT Philosophy undergraduate program continues to grow, thanks to the work of current Director Clerk Shaw.
