Spring Symposium: On Social Norms
Each year, our department hosts a spring symposium that features and advances the research of a particular faculty member. This year’s spring symposium was organized by assistant professor Adam Cureton and focused on his research into the nature of social norms, including the source of their normative force and their relationship to basic moral principles. The symposium featured presentations by Barbara Herman (UCLA), Tom Hill (UNC-Chapel Hill), Brad Hooker (University of Reading, UK), Henry Richardson (Georgetown University), and, of course, Adam Cureton himself! The well-attended sessions facilitated sustained and focused conversations on a number of closely related philosophical issues about which we expect to hear a good deal more from professor Cureton, and perhaps some graduate students in future publications.
